This website was created using a collection of photographs taken by Leslie Rogers who served in the Royal Air Force from 1927 to 1960 when he retired with the rank of Squadron Leader. The photographs are mostly of his postings to Hinaidi in Iraq during the 1930s and posting to India (1938) and Germany (1946).

If you have any questions or feedback, or if you spot anyone you recognise in the photos I would be very glad to hear from you. Please send a message using this form.

A note about picture captions

Captions in quotation marks and italicised are what’s written on the reverse of the scanned photos by Leslie Rogers.

Additional Material

Since launching this site I have been contacted by a few people offering photos and accounts of their own relatives. I’m grateful to them for their contributions and glad to add their material on behalf of their families.

Can you help with identification?

I would be particularly grateful for any help with identifying some of the locations shown in photographs that do not have a caption or any that you think are wrongly captioned. Feel free to correct me if you spot any errors as some of the captions are a best guesses based on my limited knowledge and a lack of any other available information.

To that end please share this site with:

  • RAF historians
  • Military historians
  • Aviation enthusiasts
  • Journalists
  • Genealogists
  • Anyone tracing their family history
